WINTER AT GORCOTT - WE DON'T HIBERNATE, WE GLOW UP!

If you thought things went a little quiet at Gorcott Hall over winter… think again.

While we may not host winter weddings (we like our celebrations a little less brrr and a lot more ahhh), behind the scenes it’s been anything but sleepy. In fact, it’s been a full-on glow-up season. The kind where nothing looks dramatically different at first glance… but somehow everything feels even more magical when you arrive.

Because that moment, the very first one, matters. The arrival. The intake of breath. The “oh wow” before anyone’s even stepped inside. So, we’ve been working on a brand-new entrance that does exactly that. And just when guests think they’ve taken it all in, they’ll find themselves walking beneath cascades of beautiful wisteria, wrapping everything in that soft, romantic, slightly fairytale-like feeling we’re rather fond of. First impressions don’t just last, they end up in your photos forever, so we thought we’d make them count.

Inside, things have been getting a little love too, thanks to the wonderfully talented interior designer Anna, who has been quietly working her magic on the accommodation. And when we say magic, we don’t mean a new cushion here and there (although we do love a good cushion). We’re talking about those thoughtful, beautiful touches that make you walk into a room and immediately feel at ease… the kind of spaces where you kick off your shoes, flop onto the bed, and briefly consider never leaving. It’s all been designed to feel effortlessly special, relaxed, romantic, and just a little bit indulgent.

Of course, no winter at Gorcott would be complete without a few adventures, and yes, that does involve a fair amount of wandering around antique fairs with a coffee in one hand and absolutely no sense of time. We’ve been on the hunt for pieces for the main house, not the mass-produced kind you’ve seen a hundred times before, but those one-off finds with a bit of history, a bit of character, and a story to tell. The sort of things that make a space feel layered and interesting, like it’s evolved over time rather than been put together all at once. (Also, we may have fallen in love with a few things along the way. It happens.)

Meanwhile, outside, Johnny, our Head Gardener and all-round plant whisperer, has been doing what can only be described as wizardry. While most of us were firmly in winter mode, he was out there planning, planting, pruning and preparing, and now the gardens are bursting into life with a whole array of beautiful blooms. Which means when it comes to your wedding day, you’ll have those effortlessly stunning backdrops, the kind that make your photos look like they’ve been lifted straight out of a magazine… without having to try too hard at all.

And then there’s Paul, our Head of Maintenance, the man who makes sure everything actually works (which, when you think about it, is quite important). Over the winter months, he’s been tackling everything from the tiniest fixes to the slightly bigger “let’s just sort that while we’re at it” jobs across the house and barn. It’s all the behind-the-scenes work you don’t necessarily notice… but you absolutely feel on the day when everything runs exactly as it should.

So yes, while we might not have been hosting weddings over winter, we’ve certainly not been sitting still. It’s been a bit of a refresh, a little polish here and there, a gentle glow-up for the old gal, if you like. Nothing that changes what makes Gorcott, Gorcott… just everything that makes her even better.

And the best bit? You can come and see it all for yourself.

We could keep describing it, but honestly, it’s one of those places that just needs to be experienced, the entrance, the gardens, the little details, the feeling you get when you arrive. That’s the part that sticks.

Oh, and before we go, keep an eye out for our next blog. Let’s just say it involves food… and quite a lot of it. The kind that will have you reading with one hand and reaching for snacks with the other.
